Allyson Wallauer (Landenberg, Pa.) and sophomore
Demi Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) homered to cap a four run comeback as the Post University softball team topped Rockhurst, 7-6 on Monday afternoon after dropping a 5-4 game to Winona State to begin the day.
After Rockhurst scored three runs in the first and one run in the second, the Eagles started their rally in the third as a single from freshman
Briana Wilky (Swedesboro, N.J.) scored junior
Skylar Devorin (Bethany Beach, Del.) to cut the Rockhurst lead to 4-1. Freshman
Paige Delier (Milford, N.H.) followed with an RBi double that scored Wilky to make it a 4-2 game. A groundout by classmate
Christina Loeffler (East Meadow, N.Y.) finished the scoring tor the Eagles in the inning as it plated
Demi Rivera.
Rockhurst added a run in the bottom half of the third on RBI single from Megan Freitag scored Katie Wood.
The bats continued to make noise for the Eagles in the top of the fourth as Wallauer opened the inning with a solo home run to cut Rockhurst's lead to 5-4. After Devorin reached on an and advanced to third on a sac fly, Wilky doubled to score Devorin for the second time in the game to tie the score at 5-5. It set the stage for
Demi Rivera, who took a pitch from Shannon Greene over the centerfield wall to give the Eagles the 7-5 lead.
Rockhurst added one more run in the fourth before the Eagles pitching staff shut the door.
Rivera finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Wilky was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Wallauer was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Senior
Leslie Denis (Swansea, Mass.) got the win in relief for the Eagles, striking out three in two innings.
Earlier in the day the Eagles dropped a 5-4 game to Winona State after taking a 2-0 lead early on.
In the first, the Eagles pulled off a double steal where Petrie stole home to give Post the 1-0 lead as
Kasey Jusino (Bordentown, N.J.) stole second. An RBI single from junior
Brianna Rotunno (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored Jusino to give Post the 2-0 lead.
The Eagles pitching staff, led by
Demi Rivera kept the Winona State bats silent until the fourth where they scored a run on a passed ball. They'd tie it in the top of the sixth on an RBI double from Alison Nowak.
However, the Eagles bats woke up after five innings as Jusino hit a two-run double that scored freshman
Apryl Cruz (Bethlehem, Pa.) and Devorin. But, the game was snatched away in the bottom of the sixth as Winona State's Rina Niehoff hit a three-run homer that gave it the 5-4 lead.
Jusino was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Rivera pitched three scoreless innings in her start and struck out two.
