Eagles Use Big Second Inning To Top Quincy

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Clermont, Fla. - The Post University softball team used a six-run second inning en route to a 6-2 win over Quincy in a non-conference game. Post dropped a game earlier in the day to Bemidji State, 4-2.

After a scoreless first against Quincy, the Eagles opened up the scoring in the top of the second with a double from freshman Allyson Wallauer (Landenberg, Pa.). After a single from classmate Bailee Zaccaro (Levittown, Pa.) advanced Wallauer, freshman Rianne Mayer (Berlin, Conn.) drove her in with a groundout.

The scoring was just getting started as freshman Kasey Jusino (Bordentown, N.J.) followed with a double to score Zaccaro. After freshman Jazmin Andrews (Queens, N.Y.) drew a walk and sophomore Cassidy Petrie (Staten Island, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice, junior Leyri Rivera (Dover, N.J.) hit an RBI double to score Jusino and Andrews. Sophomore Demi Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) would then follow with a two-run double of her own to put the Eagles up 6-0, a lead they wouldn't come close to relinquishing.

One reason the Eagles were able to take care of business the rest of the way, was the pitching of freshman Samantha McErlane (Mount Ephraim, N.J.) who pitched a complete game giving up two runs - none of them earned - on four hits and a walk while striking out three. She earned her first win of the season.

In the first game of the day, the Eagles gave up two runs in both the first and second innings in a 4-2 loss to Bemidji State.

The Eagles tried to muster a comeback in the bottom of the sixth as Leyri Rivera reached on a walk and Zacarro followed with a single to open the inning. After a fly out, junior Brianna Rotunno (Staten Island, N.Y.) drove in Rivera with a single followed by an RBI single from sophomore Brittany Giordano (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.). But the Eagles stranded two on base as the final two batters struck out.

Up next, the Eagles (3-3) take on Lewis and Bentley University on Wednesday.
