Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Johnson Has Career Night As Eagles Top Nyack, 82-62

Waterbury, Conn. - Junior Marcus Johnson (Evanston, Ill.) scored 21 points and grabbed 16 points as the Post University men's basketball team coasted to an 82-62 win over Nyack in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Tuesday evening at the Drubner Center.

It is the second straight win for the Eagles who move to 8-14 overall and 5-8 in the CACC.

Nyack took its only lead of the game at 2-0 before Post rattled off the next seven points capped by a
three-pointer by Johnson to give Post a 7-2 lead at the 18:02 mark. The two teams kept it close after the early run. At three different points in the game, the Eagles looked to blow the game open, taking nine point leads, but each time Nyack was able to cut the deficit down to four. However, the Eagles were finally able to break through and take a double digit lead in the first half with eight seconds left as senior Levy Gillespie (Meriden, Conn.) hit a three to give Post the 46-35 advantage at halftime.

Johnson had 11 of his points in the first half. Junior Tyshon Rogers (Waterbury, Conn.) scored seven of his 17 points in the first 20 minutes.

The Eagles put the game out of reach early in the second half, going on a 19-5 run over the first 9:02 of the second half to take a 65-40 lead with 10:58 remaining. Rogers scored the first eight points of the run - and ten overall during the run to pace the Eagles. Freshman Isaiah Holmes (Lowell, Mass.) scored seven points, hitting a three during the run. Nyack wouldn't get any closer than 18 points the rest of the way.

To go along with his 17 points, Rogers also grabbed ten rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. He also dished out four assists. Holmes finished with 13 points and Gillespie scored nine to lead the Eagles off of the bench.

The Eagles outrebounded Nyack 49-42 and scored 20 second chance points off of their 17 offensive rebounds. Johnson had eight of the rebounds.

Gemaal Davis led Nyack (4-16, 3-9 CACC) in scoring with 16 points.

Up next, the Eagles take on Goldey-Beacom at 6 p.m. in a road CACC match on February 9.
