Waterbury, Conn. - Junior
Tyshon Rogers (Waterbury, Conn.) scored 27 points, but the Post University men's basketball team dropped a tough 90-82 game to Bloomfield on Wednesday evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.
Freshman
Isaiah Holmes (Lowell, Mass.) finished with 14 points and junior
D.J. Jarrett (Waterbury, Conn.) had 12 for the Eagles who are 9-18 on the season and 6-12 in the CACC.
Post scored the first seven points of the game as Rogers and Jarrett combined for all of the points in the opening run. After the Bears cut the lead to 10-7, the Eagles rattled off an 11-2 run to take a 21-9 lead with 13:51 remaining. Holmes hit two threes during the run and junior
Savion Boissard (Walden, N.Y.) hit one to close out the run. It'd be the biggest lead of the game for the Eagles.
Bloomfield fought back to tie the game at 38-38 with 5:36 left, but a late three from Rogers in the half helped give the Eagles a 46-45 lead at halftime.
Rogers scored 16 in the half to lead all scorers.
After the two teams swapped leads five times early on in the second half, the Bears went on a 10-2 run, capped by a three-pointer from Ben Basten to take a 70-61 lead with 11:54 left. However, Rogers and senior
Levy Gillespie (Meriden, Conn.) each hit a three-pointer to bookend a 10-1 run of their own to tie the game at 71-71 with 8:52 left.
However, it'd be the last time the game would be tied as the Bears finished with a 19-11 run over the final 8:30.
The Eagles hit ten threes, with Holmes hitting four. Gillespie and Rogers hit two apiece. Freshman
Abdul-Basit Ajia (Pawtucket, R.I,) grabbed 11 rebounds off the bench for Post.
Kavione Green scored 30 for Bloomfield (18-9, 16-2 CACC) to lead all scorers.
Up next, the Eagles close out their season with a CACC home game against Concordia at 3 p.m. on March 2.
