Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team rallied from a 17-point deficit, but lost in the end to St. Michael's, 78-75 in a non-conference game on Sunday afternoon.
Senior Savion Boissard led the Eagles with 17 points and junior Darrick Boyd scored 16 and shot 4-for-10 from three-point land.
Entering the second half down 42-27, the Eagles scored the first eight points as Boissard scored five points and to go along with a three-pointer from sophomore Devonte McCall.
The Purple Knights would jump back up to a 12-point lead at 54-42, but the Eagles would go on a 17-5 run, thanks in large part to six straight points by junior Jonathan Duvivier. Sophomore Isaiah Holmes capped the run with a jumper at the 9:25 mark.
However, St. Michael's (3-6, 0-3 Jordan Guzman hit three three-pointers as part of an 11-4 run to put the Purple Knights up 70-63. Again, the Eagles would make another rally, cutting the deficit to one point again after a layup and free-throw by Boissard at 1:35 made it a 76-75 game. After two free-throws from Guzman to make it a 78-75 game with nine seconds left, the Eagles buzzer beater attempt bounced off the rim to end the game.
In the first half, the Eagles (5-4, 0-1 CACC) jumped out to an 8-2 lead as Boyd hit back-to-back threes. The Purple Knights followed with a 9-0 run to take an 11-8 lead. They would lead the rest of the first half. Boyd scored 11 of his points in the first half.
Senior Marcus Johnson finished with nine points and nine rebounds. Holmes finished with nine as well on 4-for-6 shooting. McCall had nine points and seven rebounds. Duvivier finished with eight points.
Guzman led St. Michael's with 25 points on 6-for-10 shooting from three.
In their last game before winter break, the Eagles will host Bloomfield in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference home opener against Bloomfield at 7:30 p.m.
