Shelton, Conn. – Senior Lucas Smith scored a hat trick in a men's hockey loss to Bryn Athyn on Sunday afternoon at The Rinks at Shelton.

It was the first hat trick of Smith's career and the first Eagle to achieve the feat this season.

After the Lions scored twice in the first period, Smith got the Eagles on the board at the 3:31 mark of the second taking a pass from junior Jake Raleigh in a breakaway, making a move to his right and sneaking the puck past goalie Gabriel Couture.

The Lions took a two-goal lead again on a goal from Devon Becker at the 12:13 mark.

Smith cut the deficit to one goal again at 5:24 in the third, ripping a slap shot on a one timer from junior Evan Lugo to make it a 3-2 game on a power play. Just 61 seconds later Smith just about replicated his previous goal on a power play, ripping a slap shot just in front of the blue line on a pass from Lugo.

However, the Lions would add two goals, including one as time expired for the final tally.

Junior Brandon Brown had 28 saves for the Eagles who are 2-6-1 on the season.

Post will host Anna Maria college on December 7 in its next game at 2:30 p.m.
