West Springfield, Ma. – The Post University men's hockey team rally from a three-goal deficit fell just short in a 5-3 loss to Western New England on Tuesday evening in a non-conference game.
After falling behind 4-1 in the third, sophomore John Krapian found the net on a centering pass from Tyler Hackett on a power play at the 7:03 mark to make it a 4-2 game. It was Krapian's third goal of the season.
At 15:29 in the third, junior Jake Raleigh scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season on a centering backhanded pass in front of the net from freshman Jack Engdahl to make it a one goal game at 4-3.
However, the Golden Bears would score an insurance goal at 18:18 on an empty net to take a 5-3 cushion, which they would hold the rest of the way.
Western New England opened the scoring with a goal from Demitrios Stefanou to make it a 1-0 game at the 2:16 mark before Hackett scored on a rebound from a shot by senior Matt Moreschi to tie the game. The Golden Bears would score two more goals in the second and one in the third to make it a 4-1 game before the rally from the Eagles.
Sophomore Joseph McLeod finished with 16 saves on the day for the Eagles.
The Eagles will host Bryn Athyn on December 1 at 3:45 p.m. at The Rinks at Shelton.
