Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Goldey-Beacom Behind 14 Kills From Veale

Waterbury, Conn. – Senior Shannon Veale had 14 kills and freshman Aniya Goodman added 12 kills as the Post University women's volleyball team swept Goldey-Beacom, 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-17) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams played a tightly contested first 15 points of the first set with the Lightning taking an 8-7 lead. Post would then rattle off the next seven points to take a 14-8 lead. Veale had three of her kills during the stretch, all on assists from junior Elizabeth McGrath. The Eagles would eventually extend to its lead to as much as nine points at 23-14 and would win by that same margin, closing out the set on another kill from Veale. Veale and Goodman each had four kills in the set. Freshman Jayda Roman and senior Ann Marie Nelson each had three kills in the first set.

In a wild second set, Post fell behind 6-0 before rattling off 13 of the next 18 points to take a 13-11 lead, including seven straight points. Goodman had three kills in the seven-point run. The Lightning responded with four straight points to take a 15-13 before Post went on another seven-point scoring run as four different Eagles had kills during the run. Again, the Lightning responded with a 7-1 run to take a 22-21 lead. Post answered scoring the final four points, including back-to-back kills from Veale and Nelson to take a 2-0 match lead.

Post jumped out to a 5-1 lead in set three as Veale had three kills to set the tone for the set. The lightning crawled back to tie the game at 7-7. The Eagles responded with a 5-0 run as the Lightning committed four attack errors to give the Eagles the 12-7 lead. Post extended its lead to as much as eight points and closed out with the final three points, the final two on aces from Goodman.

Roman and Nelson each finished with seven kills. McGrath had 38 assists. Freshman Kim Buttery had 12 digs to lead the Eagles.

Makinsie Balderson led the Lightning with seven kills.

It is eighth straight win for the Eagles (3-23, 3-21 CACC) over the Lightning.

Up next, the Eagles host Dominican on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. in a CACC match.
