Shelton, Conn. – Freshman Sadie Storm scored two goals and added an assist, but the Post University women's hockey team fell to Trine, 6-4 on Saturday afternoon.
The first period was a scoring fest as each team scored three goals, beginning with Storm who took a pass from freshman Madison Turley and junior Paige Dundas to put the Eagles up, 1-0 early on at the 1:19 mark.
After back-to-back power play goals by Trine at 7:15 and 13:23, senior Kendall Fitzgerald tied the game just 19 seconds later on an assist from Julia Schatz and Mia Landry. It was the second goal of the season for Fitzgerald.
Storm would put in her second goal of the period at the 17:46 mark on passes from Dundas and senior Molly Brumfield to give the Eagles the 3-2 lead. However, the Thunder would score its third power play goal of the period on a goal from Devin Dzumaryk with 45 seconds remaining in the period.
Post would take its third lead of the game just 4:20 into the second as freshman Jenna Abeyta scored on a power play, her team-leading sixth goal of the season on passes from Fitzgerald and Storm to make it a 4-3 game. Trine answered with a power play goal of their own, its fourth of the game at 9:11.
The Thunder took the lead at the 11:56 mark in the second on a goal from Grace Canty before scoring an empty net goal in the third for insurance.
Sophomore goaltender Kaitlyn Daly had 37 saves.
The Eagles will host Long Island University on November 15 at 2 p.m.
