Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s Hockey Loses Tough Overtime Match To Assumption

Shelton, Conn. – Junior Jake Raleigh scored a late third period goal to send the men's hockey team's game to overtime against Assumption, but the Eagles lost 4-3 on a Greyhounds goal with 43 seconds left in a Northeast-10 game on Saturday night at The Rinks at Shelton.

It was the Eagles first game as a member of the NE-10.

The Greyhounds led 1-0 after a goal at the 12:58 mark of the first period before the Eagles tied it up on a power play goal from senior Noah Wild at 16:30 to tie the game at 1-1 as a slap shot from freshman Kieran Gardner deflected off Wild's stick and into the net. Sophomore Michael Karas also assisted on the goal.

Post took its first lead at the 11:54 mark in the second as Evan Lugo rebounded his own deflection on a shot from freshman Jack Engdahl in front of the net to make it a 2-1 game.

The Greyhounds tied the game just 30 seconds later on a goal from Dante Maribito.

Assumption regained the lead at 3:07 in the third and looked destined to win the game in regulation, but the Eagles put an extra attacker on the ice and Raleigh deflected a shot from Karas that hit off the pipe and past Assumption goalkeeper David Altman. It was Raleigh's third goal of the season.

In overtime, however, Alexander Mavrogiannis found a loose puck centered in front of the net on a pass from Dante Maribito and scored the game-winner.

Junior Brandon Brown finished with 42 saves on the day for the Eagles who are now 1-1-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the NE-10.

Up next, the Eagles host Southern New Hampshire on November 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m., respectively in an NE-10 clash.
