Jarrett Scores 27 Points To Lead Men’s Basketball To Win Over Bridgeport

Bridgeport, Conn.– Behind 27 points off of the bench from senior D.J. Jarrett and some hot three-point shooting, the Post University men's basketball team defeated the University of Bridgeport, 90-87 on Sunday afternoon.

The win keeps the Eagles undefeated at 2-0 as they won both matches of the University of Bridgeport Classic.

Post went 9-for-17 from three-point range during the day, including Jarrett, who went 5-for-7 and junior Darrick Boyd, who went 3-for-6.

The Eagles and Purple Knights played a tight nine minutes to begin the first half as Bridgeport took a small 23-20 lead. However, the Eagles erupted on a 27-6 run over the next eight minutes to take a 47-29 lead at the 3:30 mark. Jarrett scored ten points during the run, as he, sophomore Isaiah Holmes and Boyd all hit three-pointers during the run.

Jarrett went 4-for-5 in the first half from three-point range and hit five of his six field goal attempts.

Post went into the half with a 52-39 lead.

The Eagles were able to extend their lead on four different occasions in the second half before Bridgeport rallied to close the gap to one point at 88-87 after a three-pointer from Nemanja Zubac with 46 seconds left, but a layup from sophomore Devonte McCall off a pass from Holmes gave the Eagles the 90-87 lead with ten seconds left, but a missed three-pointer from Travis Robinson-Morgan at the buzzer sealed the win for the Eagles.

Senior Marcus Johnson finished with 15 points while Boyd and McCall each had 11. McCall also added nine rebounds. Sophomore D.J. Frechette had ten points off the bench.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak to Bridgeport.

D'Vonne Trumbo and Zubac each had 19 points to lead the Purple Knights.

Up next, the Eagles open their home season as they host Mercy at 3 p.m. on November 16.
