Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hot Shooting First Half Propels Men’s Basketball To Big Win Over Mercy

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team remained undefeated after a hot shooting start to the game in a 99-77 win over Mercy in a non-conference match.

Sophomore Devonte McCall led the way for the Eagles with 25 points, while junior Darrick Boyd had 23.

The Eagles (3-0) went 10-for-21 from three-point land in the first half as two three-pointers by McCall and a three from Boyd gave the Eagles an early 20-9 lead. Mercy cut the Post lead to 29-24 before a layup from senior Marcus Johnson, a three from Boyd and a layup from sophomore D.J. Frechette off of a steal gave the Eagles the 36-24 lead.

Mercy cut their deficit to 38-29, but it'd be the last time they'd be within single digits in the half as Frechette, Boyd and sophomore Isaiah Holmes each hit threes as part of a 9-2 run to give the Eagles a 47-31 lead. They'd go into the break with a 53-42 lead.

The Mavericks cut the Eagles lead to 53-44 early on in the second half, before McCall scored ten points as part of a 16-4 run to give the Eagles a 67-48 lead.

Post would extend its lead to as much as 26 points in the second half, thanks in large part to its free-throw shooting. The Eagles went 25-for-27 as a team, including 18-for-19 in the second half.

The Eagles scored 25 points off of turnovers, and the Mavericks never led.

Junior Jonathan Duvivier scored 12 points off the bench, including going 3-for-4 from three-point land. Post finished 14-for-34 from three.

Matthew Altecus led Mercy in scoring with 23 points.

Up next, the Eagles play at American International College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
