Men’s Soccer Ties No. 15 Wilmington In Big Time CACC Match

Newark, Del. – In a rematch of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship game from a year ago, the Post University men's soccer team tied No. 15 Wilmington on Saturday afternoon.

Post (5-1-2, 3-0-1 CACC), ranked sixth in the East scored in the 57th minute as junior Alvaro Sanchez capitalized off a turnover when he intercepted a pass from the defender back to Wilmington goalkeeper Gabriel Prgomet and put the ball into an open net to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead. It was his sixth goal of the season, which leads the team. It was also the fourth straight game he has scored a goal.

Wilmington (8-1-1, 3-1-1 CACC) answered just two minutes later as CACC scoring leader Lorne Bickley scored his 14th goal of the season off of a corner kick.

Sophomore David Mollenthial finished with five saves

The all-time series now sits at 9-7-6. The Eagles won last year's CACC title game, 2-0.

"I am once again very proud of the boys, coach Ted Haley said. "We played a very physical nationally ranked Wilmington squad at their house and stood toe to toe with them all game. We certainly were not our best today but we still walked away with a good result. We have another tough week ahead but the attitude and fight in our locker room is fantastic so we are looking forward to the next challenge".

Post, now in third place in the CACC will take on the top team in the conference, Concordia on October 8 at 3 p.m. at LaMoy Field.
