Caldwell, N.J. – Adding to his resume, junior Sergio Diaz scored twice and assisted on another goal as the Post University defeated Caldwell, 3-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game.
The Eagles, now the ninth ranked team in the East Region in Division II sits at 9-3-3 overall and 6-2-2 in the CACC. They are in third place. The top four teams will get to host their first round match in the CACC Tournament.
After the Cougars jumped on the board in the tenth minute to take an early 1-0 lead, the Eagles answered as Diaz took a cross from freshman Giorgio Scarpecci and put the ball past Caldwell goalkeeper, Nils Svere to tie the game, 1-1 in the 34th minute.
The teams would go into the break tied, but Diaz broke that tie quickly in the 48th minute, scoring on a penalty kick after a foul on Caldwell to make it a 2-1 game.
Junior Alvaro Sanchez would tack on some insurance in the 80th minute taking a pass form Diaz who capitalized off of a turnover to make it a 3-1 game in the 80th minute.
Sophomore David Mollenthial stopped three shots on the day in net for the Eagles.
It was the third straight win for the Eagles in the last four matchups, and fourth win in last five meetings against the Cougars.
Up next, the Eagles will play second place Goldey-Beacom in an important CACC road match at 2:30 on November 2.
