Women’s Volleyball Takes Down Dominican For First Win Of The Season

Orangeburg, N.Y.– Behind 13 kills from freshman Aniya Goodman and ten saves and 14 digs from senior Shannon Veale, the Post University women's volleyball team won its first game of the season, 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-11) over Dominican in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Thursday evening.

After dropping the first set, the Eagles came out hot in the second set, scoring the first seven points of the match with freshman Jayda Roman supplying three kills and Veale coming up with a kill and two aces. Post extended its lead to as much as nine points on four different occasions and the Chargers never got closer than four points in the set.

In set three, Post again came out strong, taking a 5-1 lead early on as Roman had two more kills along with a block from seniors Ann Marie Nelson and Michelle Stublarec. The Chargers tied it at 7-7, before a an 11-5 run by the Eagles gave them an 18-12 cushion. Aces from Kim Buttery and Roman, and kills from Nelson, Stublarec, Veale and Goodman put allowed the Eagles some breathing room for the moment. However, the Chargers responded, cutting the Eagles lead to 24-23 before a kill from Veale ended the set, giving Post the 2-1 lead in the match.

The fourth and final set was all Eagles, jumping out to a 15-4 lead. Post was up 5-4 before rattling off ten straight points. Nine of those points came off the serve of junior Suzy Boulay. Goodman had three kills during the run. The Chargers cut it to 15-8, but five straight points from the Eagles sealed the win, as another two kills from Goodman and two aces from Buttery gave Post the 20-8 lead, one that they wouldn't relinquish.

Boulay finished with 11 digs. Veale added five aces. Junior Elizabeth McGrath finished with 33 assists and four digs.

Up next, Post will host Jefferson at 2 p.m. in a CACC match.
