Eagles Go Nuclear From Three, Beat Holy Family 100-87

Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University men's basketball team shot 18-for-36 from three-point land and jumped out to a 17-1 lead before winning a wire-to-wire Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game against Holy Family, 100-87 on Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center.

Senior Darryl Stewart (Atlanta, Ga.) and junior Tyshon Rogers (Waterbury, Conn.) led the way for the Eagles with 17 points apiece and Marcus Johnson went 4-for-4 from deep for 14 points in the blowout win.

In the first 4:10 of the first half, Stewart, Johnson and  junior D.J. Jarrett (Waterbury, Conn.) each hit a three to spark the opening run. Holy Family was also held without a field goal until the 13:41 mark when Kharon Randolph hit a three. Johnson answered right back on the next possession with his second three of the half to give Post a 23-6 lead with 13:15 remaining. 



Post (4-10, 1-4 CACC) led by as much as 23 points at 39-16 when senior Levy Gillespie (Meriden, Conn.) hit a three with 8:11 remaining. The Tigers went on a 22-8 run of their own to cut the Eagles lead down to 47-38 left at 2:51 before junior Raven Owen (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a three and freshman Isaiah Holmes (Lowell, Mass.) hit a jumper to put the Eagles up 52-39 at the half.

Post hit 11 of its 23 three-point attempts in the first half.



The Eagles cooled down briefly at the beginning of the second half as the Tigers (5-6, 2-3 CACC) went on a 21-8 run to start the second half to cut Post's lead to 64-60 with 11:40 left. It didn't take long for the Eagles to find their stroke again, countering with a 20-4 run over the next 4:36 to take an 84-64 lead with 7:04 left. Rogers had eight points during the run and Gillespie capped the run with a three.

Holy Family wouldn't get any closer the rest of the way.

Gillespie finished with 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting, including 4-for-9 from three. Johnson hit all five of his field goal attempts on the day. Eight different Eagles hit a three and all 12 players who played scored.

Patrick Robinson led Holy Family with 20 points. Randolph had 18.

Up next for the Eagles is a CACC road game at Bloomfield on January 8, scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
