Wilmington, De. – Seniors Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif) had 16 kills, and Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) led the match with 39 digs, as the Post University women's volleyball won its third straight match, defeating Goldey-Beacom, 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 25-23) on Friday evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup.
With the win, the Eagles jump to 5-8 on the season, and 2-0 in the CACC.
After falling behind 9-4 early in set one, the Eagles went on a 15-5 run to take a 19-14 lead. Freshman Rylie Arms (Gilbert, Ariz) had three kills during the run, and Hunziker had two. The Eagles were never threatened the rest of the set.
The Eagles dropped the second set, as the Lightning won the last four points before rebounding with a resounding set three win, thanks in large part to a 6-0 run to close out the set after falling behind 4-1 early on. Junior Ann Marie Nelson (Draper, Utah) and junior Shannon Veale (Toms River, N.J.) had kills in during the final run, and freshman Tatianna Rivas (Boca Raton, Fla.) had two aces.
In the final set, the Eagles jumped out to a dominating 21-11 lead thanks to five kills by Hunziker, but the Lightning (2-10, 0-3 CACC) answered with a 12-2 run of their own before a kill by sophomore Ashley Levatino (Holtsville, N.Y.) and a block from Veale and Levatino gave the Eagles the fourth set win.
Arms finished with ten kills. Levatino led all Eagles with five blocks and sophomore Suzy Boulay (Kingston, N.Y.) had 17 digs to lead all players.
It's an early turnaround for the Eagles as they take on Wilmington in a CACC match on Saturday at 2 p.m.
