Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team came back from a seven point deficit to claim the third set, but ultimately dropped a 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17) match to American International College Monday evening at the Drubner Center.
After dropping two tight sets, the Eagles fell behind 22-15 in the third before rattling off seven straight points, including two aces from freshman Tatianna Rivas (Boca Raton, Fla.) as the Eagles tied the game, 22-22. After the Yellow Jackets briefly took a 23-22 lead, a service error by AIC and kills from senior Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and sophomore Ashley Levatino (Holtsville, N.Y.) gave the Eagles the set.
The Eagles comeback, however, fell short in the fourth set as the Yellow Jackets went on a 16-8 run after the teams were tied 9-9 to win the match.
Seger led all Eagles in kills with 11. Senior Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif) had nine and Junior Shannon Veale (Toms River, N.J.), eight. Hunziker's six aces were a match high. Rivas finished with a team-high 26 assists. Levatino had seven blocks to lead all players, five more than the next closest. Senior Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) had 23 digs to lead Post.
Diva Rivas-Reyes had 17 kills for AIC. Dolores Kopren finished with a game-high 45 assists.
Up next for the Eagles is the Long Island Invitational on September 1 as the Eagles take on Saint Rose at noon and Molloy at 2 p.m.
