New Haven, Conn. – Freshman Rylie Arms (Gilbert, Arizona) had eight kills and junior Shannon Veale (Toms River, N.J.) added seven more of her own, but the Post University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (18-25, 19-25, 14-25) match to Southern Connecticut State University on Monday evening to open up the 2018-2019 season.
The Eagles scored the first three points of the first game and five of the first seven to give them a 5-2 lead early on. A kill from sophomore Ashley Levatino (Holtsville, N.Y.) and senior Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif) contributed to the early lead with kills, before the Owls finished on a 23-13 run to take a 1-0 lead.
In game two, the Eagles led by as much as 13-9 as two kills from Veale, and one each from senior Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), Hunziker, Arms and Levatino gave the Eagles the early lead before the Owls rallied for the game two win, finishing on a 16-6 spurt.
The Owls (3-1) jumped out to an 11-4 lead and did not relinquish it in the final game.
Senior Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) finished the match with 20 assists to the lead the Eagles to go along with seven digs. Sophomore Suzy Boulay (Kingston, N.Y.) had eight assists.
Alyssa gage led the Owls with 12 kills while Kailyn O'Neal paved the way with 23 assists.
Up next for the Eagles is a home out-of-conference tilt against American International College on August 29 at 7 p.m. at the Drubner Center.
