Waterbury, Conn. – Behind the big bats of freshmen Danny Di Marzo (Fishkill, N.Y.) and Mike Lisinicchia (Stamford, Conn.) and the arm of senior Nick Arnold (West Islip, N.Y.), the Post University baseball team beat Dominican 8-3 in their second game of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament on Thursday evening keeping them alive in the double elimination event. The Eagles dropped their first game to Wilmington, 5-0.
After falling behind 2-0 early against Dominican in the second game, the Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the third when senior Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) singled to left to score Di Marzo, to cut the Eagles deficit to 2-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, Di Marzo drove in two runs with a two-run single that scored freshman Matt Goehrig (Clifton, N.J.) and junior Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.). The Eagles tacked on one more in the inning on a wild pitch that scored senior Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) giving Post a 4-2 lead.
Post tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings on a RBI singles from freshman Jose Vasquez (New York, N.Y.) and junior John Cartagena, Jr. (Danbury, Conn.), respectively to put Post up 6-2.
Lisinicchia made sure no comeback was in the cards for the Chargers, lacing an RBI triple to center field to score Cartagena in the bottom of the sixth, and following it up with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth that scored Emigholz
Arnold, the ace on the hill, struck out seven in seven innings and is now 9-2 on the season. Twice he struck out two batters in an inning.
Lisinicchia finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Di Marzo was 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
In Post's first game, the Eagles were held to just six hits - two by Missiti - in the 5-0 loss to Wilmington.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the top of the second on a two-run double by Brooks Ryan to take a 2-0 lead. They added one more run in the top of the fourth, and two more in the top of the sixth, capped by an RBI single from Nick Macey.
Junior Tyler Kovalewich (Colonia, N.J.) started on the mound for the Eagles, pitching seven innings and striking out six. Brad Scull pitched a complete game for Wilmington and struck out ten.
Up next for the Eagles, they will take on the winner of Felician and Wilmington at 3 p.m. on Friday. Felician and Wilmington will play at noon.
