Eagles Eliminated From CACC Tournament After Historic Season

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University baseball team's season came to an end on Friday afternoon, falling to Wilmington, 11-4 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament at Municipal Stadium.

Wilmington put up a run in the top of the first inning on a home run by Brooks Ryan to lead off the game before the Eagles answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs. Junior Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) kicked things off with an RBI double that scored freshman Connor Kolich (Mahwah, N.J.), who walked with one out. Classmate Mike Lisinicchia (Stamford, Conn.) followed with a single to advance Missiti to third before a sacrifice fly from junior John Russo (Bronx, N.Y.) gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

Post scored another run in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 lead on an RBI single from Kolich that scored senior Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.), who singled to lead off the inning.

The Wildcats answered with three runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a two-run triple in by Nick Grant that tied the game. A Nick Macey RBI groundout gave Wilmington the lead.

After Wilmington added two runs in the top of the fifth, the Eagles rallied with a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double by Lisinicchia that scored Missiti. Unfortunately, a hard hit ball from Russo resulted in a double play that ended the rally.

Wilmington put away the game in the top of the ninth, scoring five runs.

Kolich was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Missiti was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Starting on the mound was freshman Matt Goehrig (Clifton, N.J.) who pitched five innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out six. Junior Mike Munson (Plainville, Conn.) struck out four in relief.

The Eagles ended its season 30-22, setting a school record for wins and taking home the CACC North Division regular season title.

Felician and Wilmington will meet on Saturday for the CACC championship at noon at Municipal Stadium.
