WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse team opened a first half lead against Chestnut Hill on Sunday in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game at LaMoy Field before falling 20-7.
The game was scoreless for the first 8:08 of the afternoon as neither team could find the net. Chestnut Hill broke through first with a free-position goal. Sophomore
Jaylene Souto (Middletown, R.I.) quickly scored twice for the Eagles on their next two possessions to give Post a 2-1 lead.
A yellow card on the Griffins gave Post an extra-man advantage and the Eagles capitalized on the situation as senior
Savannah Schwack (Manorville, N.Y.) found freshman
Sydney Hogan (Northford, Conn.) to extend the lead to 3-1.
Chestnut Hill scored the next five goals to jump ahead 6-3 before Schwack added her second with 4:48 to play in the first. The Griffins held a 9-4 lead at the half.
Goals by junior
Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and Schwack sandwiched a Chestnut Hill score early in the second to cut the deficit to 10-6, but Post would be unable to pull any closer. The Griffins rolled off nine straight goals until junior
Lauren Chambers (Lebanon, Pa.) stopped the streak with her fifth of the season with 2:32 to play.
Freshman goaltender
Noreen Donnelly (Staten Island, N.Y.) made 12 saves. Deren and Souto each led Post with five draw controls. Deren and freshman
Julia Thomas (Wading River, N.Y.) had two caused turnovers each.
The Eagles hit the field again on Tuesday, April 10 at Caldwell. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
