Women’s Lacrosse Scores Program-Record 22 Goals in Win Over District of Columbia

Eagles win second game of the season

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse team scored the most goals in program history as it defeated District of Columbia (UDC) 22-8 at LaMoy Field on a snowy Friday afternoon. Senior Savannah Schwack (Manorville, N.Y.) led the Eagles with six goals and two assists on the day.
 
The first half was close as each team traded goals to start. Schwack and junior Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) put the Eagles in front 2-0 but the Firebirds answered with two of their own. Juniors Alana Lopez (Wolcott, Conn.) and Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) gave Post a 4-2 lead midway through the first before Kianna Franklin scored twice to tie the game once again.
 
Freshman Sydney Hogan (Northford, Conn.) broke the tie with her first of four goals with 7:23 to play in the half as Post jump ahead 7-4. The Firebirds cut the deficit to one before goals by Hogan and sophomore Jaylene Souto (Middletown, R.I.) extended the Eagles' lead back out to three at 9-6.
 
Shemara Jefferson scored for UDC with just 16 seconds left. The Eagles forced a turnover off the ensuing draw and junior Lauren Chambers (Lebanon, Pa.) found Hogan for a score at the halftime buzzer.
 
The late goal swung all the momentum is Post's favor as the Eagles outscored the Firebirds 12-1 in the second half.
 
Souto scored five goals and an assist while Deren added three goals and three assists. Middleton picked up six of the Eagles' season-best 26 ground balls to go with three caused turnovers. Deren won six draw controls and added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
Post returns to conference action on Sunday at home against Chestnut Hill. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
