Lyndhurst, N.J. – An eighth inning two-out rally fell just short in game one, as the Post University baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Felician, 5-3 and 11-2 on Saturday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.
With the Eagles down 5-0 with two outs in the top of the eighth, freshman Connor Kolich (Mahwah, N.J.) singled and subsequently scored on the same play after a miscue in centerfield to give the Eagles their first run of the game. After classmate Mike Lisinicchia (Stamford, Conn.) hit a ground rule double to center field, junior Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) singled to drive in Lisinicchia to make it a 5-2 game. Freshman Matt Goehrig (Clifton, N.J.) kept the rally going with an RBI double to left to score Missiti to cut the deficit to 5-3. Junior John Russo (Bronx, N.Y.) then reached on an error, but the rally ended on a pop up to shortstop with two runners on.
MIssiti finished the day 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Danny Healey Jr. went 3-for-3 for Felician with an RBI.
In game two, Felician scored runs in the first five innings to take an 11-0 lead and never looked back as the Eagles tacked on two runs in the top of the ninth in the loss.
Kolich drove in a run on a sacrifice fly that scored senior Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) and junior Brandon Escalante (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) had a pinch hit RBI single that scored senior Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) for the lone runs for the Eagles.
Emigholz finished the day 2-for-3 with a run. Freshman Danny Di Marzo (Fishkill, N.Y.) was 2-for-4.
Bruce Strickland was 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI for Felician, including an RBI double in the bottom of the second and a two-run single in the bottom of the third. Rahul Prince was 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI, highlighted by a two-run triple in the bottom of the first that gave Felician (22-20, 20-6 CACC) a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles (18-18, 10-10 CACC) pitching staff had six strikeouts in the game, led by freshman Makhi Booker (Montclair, N.J.) who had three in his two innings of relief.
Up next for the Eagles is a CACC doubleheader against Bloomfield at Municipal Stadium on Sunday beginning at noon.
