Waterbury, Conn.– Freshman Matt Goehrig (Clifton, N.J.) homered in game one and struck out six batters in game two as the Post University baseball team swept Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rival Bloomfield, 11-4 and 6-3 on Sunday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.

The Eagles jumped on the board early in often in game one, as junior Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) started the scoring with an RBI single before Goehrig came up to bad and hit his first career home run well over the left center field wall to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Due to a scheduling conflict, the Eagles played as the road team.

It was more of the same for the Eagles offense in the top of the second, as freshman Jose Vasquez (New York, N.Y.) tripled to score classmate Connor Kolich  (Mahwah, N.J.) and senior Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) to make it a 4-0 game. Post tacked on two more in the top of the third on a single from Wright that scored junior John Russo (Bronx, N.Y.) and Goehrig.

It was more than enough offense for starter, freshman Mike Lisinicchia (Stamford, Conn.), as he picked up his first win of the season. He went six innings, giving up one earned run on five hits and three walks while striking out three.

After Bloomfield got on the board in bottom of the fourth, the Eagles added two more in the fifth on an error at second base off the bat of senior Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.). Post put the game away in the later innings as junior John Cartagena Jr. (Danbury, Conn.) and freshman Danny Di Marzo (Fishkill, N.Y.) drove in runs on an RBI triple and single, respectively in the seventh inning and Vasquez tacked on a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Goehrig finished the game 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI, three runs while drawing two walks. Vasquez went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run. Wright went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run.

Goehrig showed off his arm in the game two start, going four innings, giving up just two earned runs on nine hits and a walk to go with his six strikeouts. With the win, he is 4-3 on the season.

Bloomfield took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third before the Eagles answered in the next half inning with two runs of their own. Di Marzo hit an RBI single to drive in Missiti, who himself singled to lead off the inning.

The Bears (11-20-1, 6-14 CACC) tied it in the bottom of the inning at 2-2 on an RBI single by Azmir Garcia, but it didn't last long as Missiti drove in Vasquez and Wright on a two-run single. Wright singled to lead off the inning and Vasquez hit a one out double to put the two men in scoring position and set the plate for Missiti.

For good measure the Eagles (20-18, 12-10 CACC) added two more insurance runs in the sixth, capped by an RBI single from Vasquez.

Junior Michael Munson (Plainville, Conn.) pitched three innings of relief, striking out three and earning his fourth save of the season.

Missiti finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Wright was 2-for-3 with two runs and Vasquez was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.
