LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Post University softball team earned a split with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Felician on Wednesday afternoon in Lyndhurst, N.J. The Eagles are now 16-18 overall and 14-6 in conference play with just over a week left in the regular season.
Game One – Felician 1, Post 0
Two errors by the Eagles in the third inning plated the only run of the game as the Golden Falcons grabbed the opener.
Post recorded five hits in the game including two in the second to put runners at second and third with two outs. Freshman
Brittany Giordano (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) walked and advanced to third on a double by sophomore
Skylar Devorin (Millville, Del.), the only extra-base hit for either side in game one. Unfortunately, a ground out ended the threat and Post never advanced a runner past first the rest of the game.
Freshman
Bridget Betley (Fairfield, N.J.) pitched a complete game, allowing three hits, four walks, and one unearned run.
Game Two – Post 4, Felician 2
After limited offense in the opener, the teams combined for 21 hits in game two. The Eagles loaded the bases in the first inning, but were unable to take an early lead. Felician used back-to-back one-out hits to jump ahead 1-0 in the second and added another run in the third.
Giordano singled to right center with one out in the fourth. Junior
Kailyn Biello (Watertown, Conn.) drew a four-pitch walk and both advanced into scoring position after a wild pitch. Freshman
Cassidy Petrie (Staten Island, N.Y.) and sophomore
Leyri Rivera (Dover, N.J.) each flowed with RBI singles to tie the score 2-2.
Senior
Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) earned a free pass to lead the bases with two outs. Freshman
Demi Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) came up big for the Eagles for the second straight day as she plated two on a single to right field for the 4-2 final.
Felician put two runners on in the fourth and had a triple in the sixth, but the Eagles were able to keep the Golden Falcons off the board for the win.
Junior
Leslie Denis (Swansea, Mass.) struck out three and allowed two runs over the first four innings to improve to 7-6 on the year. Freshman
Leigha Goldsack (Rutherford, N.J.) tossed the final three shutout innings striking out two to pick up the save.
Post returns home on Sunday to celebrate Senior Day against Jefferson in a CACC twin bill. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
