Missiti Hits Walk-Off Single As Eagles Split With Bloomfield

Waterbury, Conn.– Junior Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.)  hit a walk-off RBI single in game two to give the Post University baseball team a 3-2 and a split of the doubleheader against Bloomfield in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon. Bloomfield won game one, 4-1.

With the game tied, 2-2 heading to the bottom of the seventh, freshman Mike Lisnicchia (Stamford, Conn.) doubled to lead off the inning for Post and start the rally, after a walk to senior Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) mixed between two strikeouts, Missiti singled to left field to score freshman Travvis Ferguson (Nassau, Bahamas), who pinch ran for Lisnicchia for the game-winning run.

The Eagles (16-16, 8-8 CACC) got on the board in the Bottom of third as Emigholz hit a two-run double to score freshman Danny Di Marzo (Fishkill, N.Y.) and freshman Jose Vasquez (New York, N.Y.) to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Bloomfield tied up the game in the top of the sixth on an error off the bat of Harry Montero.

The Eagles pitching staff was solid. Junior Tyler Kovalewich (Colonia, N.J.) started and pitched five innings, striking out five, while giving up two runs – none earned – on three hits and three walks. Junior Mike Munson (Plainville, Conn.) got the win, striking out all three batters he faced in the top of the seventh.

Emigholz finished the game 1-for-2 with two RBI. Di Marzo was 2-for-3 with a run.

In game one, freshman Noah Meeks (Danbury, Conn.) went six strong innings in the 4-1 loss.

Meeks gave up three earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four.

The Bears (10-15-1, 5-9 CACC) scored a run on the top of the first, fourth and sixth innings, before freshman Connor Kolich (Mahwah, N.J.) scored a run for the Eagles in the bottom of the seventh with no outs. However, the Eagles were unable to get across anymore runs in the inning.

Up next for the Eagles is a CACC home doubleheader against Caldwell beginning at noon on April 20.
