Waterbury, Conn. – Junior Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) drove in three runs in game two, but the Post University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, 4-0 and 9-5 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tilt.
Down 1-0 heading to the bottom of the first, freshman Connor Kolich (Mahwah, N.J.) doubled to left field and was followed by an RBI ground out by Missiti to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead at the end of the first inning.
The Lightning tacked on another run in the top of the second and four more in the top of the third, highlighted by a two-run single by Cole Collins to give Goldey-Beacom a 6-2 lead.
Post tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap on an RBI single by sophomore Jared Zima (Berlin, Conn.) to score senior Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.).
After the Lightning scored a run each in innings seven through nine, a rally from the Eagles fell short in the ninth. They were able to get across two runs on a two-run double by Missiti that scored junior Brandon Escalante (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and Zima.
Both Zima and Kolich finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
In game one, starting freshman pitcher Matt Goehrig (Clifton, N.J.) struck out six in six innings while giving up three runs – two earned on four hits and two walks in the 4-0 loss.
The Eagles (15-15, 7-7 CACC) bats were held to one hit, a single by Missiti. Goldey-Beacom (14-20-1, 12-8 CACC) starter Trevor Jump pitched eight innings, striking out 11.
Up next for the Eagles is a home doubleheader against Bloomfield on April 17 beginning at noon.
