Waterbury, Conn.– The Post University baseball team used a three-run fourth inning in game two to split with the Nyack Warriors in a Central Atlantic Collegiate doubleheader on Friday afternoon. Nyack won game one, 10-3, but the Eagles took game two, 6-3.
With the game tied 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth, junior John Cartagena Jr. (Danbury, Conn.) led off the inning with a single up the middle and began a three-run rally in the inning. After another single by freshman Connor Kolich (Mahwah, N.J.), junior Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) singled through the right side to score Cartagena to give the Eagles their first lead of the game. Junior Tyler Pavone (River Vale, N.J.) would then double to drive in Kolich before a sacrifice fly would score Missiti to give the Eagles a lead they would never let up.
The Eagles (15-13, 7-5 CACC) bullpen would shut the door the rest of the game as junior Brett Pisaneschi (East Quogue, N.Y.), sophomore Tyler Boivert (Prospect, Conn.) and junior Michael Munson (Plainville, Conn.) combined for three scoreless innings, striking out four. Munson earned the save.
Senior Nick Arnold (West Islip, N.Y.) got the win, pitching four innings, giving up three runs – two earned – on four hits while striking out three.
Cartagena Jr., went 3-for-4 with two runs. Kolich was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Pavone was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Pavone also had an RBI single in the bottom of the first to score Cartagena. Freshman Danny Di Marzo (Fishkill, N.Y.) had an RBI single in the third.
In game one, the Warriors (15-15-1, 8-8) scored eight runs in the top of the second en route to their 10-3 win.
The Eagles got back two runs in the third on a sacrifice fly by Kolich and an RBI single by Pavone. It would be as close as they would get the rest of the way. Di Marzo added one more run in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI double that scored senior Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.).
Missiti went 3-for-5 in the game for the Eagles with a run. Junior John Russo (Bronx, N.Y.) made the most of his at-bats going 4-for-4.
Up next for the Eagles is a CACC home doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
