Glenville, W. Va. – Senior Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) hit a game winning home run in game two to follow up his homer in game one as the Post University baseball team swept Glenville State, 6-2 and 2-1 Sunday afternoon to extend its winning streak to six.
With the game tied 1-1 in the top of the eighth of game two, Walsh launched a home run to left field off of Jesse Weathers to give them the 2-1 lead as senior Enzo Esposito (Hamilton, N.J.) shut the door in the bottom of the inning to secure the win. Esposito struck out three and sat down all six batters he pitched in his two innings of relief.
The Eagles got on the board in the top of the fourth as freshman Matt Goehrig (Clifton, N.J.) doubled to left scoring junior Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.). Missiti reached with a double of his own to left to lead off the inning.
Glenville State responded in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by John Peloro.
Eagles starter, senior Nick Arnold (West Islip, N.Y.) pitched five innings, giving up just one hit and a walk while striking out four.
Brady Wilkinson struck out nine for Glenville State in 6.1 innings. Weathers received the loss.
In game one, Walsh homered in the first inning in Post's 6-2 win.
After Glenville State scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to give them a 2-1 lead, the Eagles tied the game on an RBI double by freshman Connor Kolich (Mahwah, N.J.) that scored freshman Jose Vasquez (New York, N.Y.) who tripled with one out in the inning.
Post took a 3-2 lead on an RBI single by junior Tyler Pavone (River Vale, N.J.) that scored Vasquez who singled.
Vasquez drove in a run on a sac fly that scored classmate Danny Di Marzo (Fishkill, N.Y.) in the sixth. The Eagles added two more insurance runs in the seventh on an RBI single by Di Marzo and an RBI double by junior John Cartagena, Jr. (Danbury, Conn.)
Vazquez finished the game 2-for-2 with two runs an RBI and a walk. Pavone was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Di Marzo was 1-for-2 with two runs, an RBI while drawing two walks.
Goerhig got the win, pitching four innings and giving up two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out three.
Up next for the Eagles is an out of conference game against Southern Connecticut State University on March 10 in West Palm Beach, Fla.
