Seventh Heaven: Eagles Extend Win Streak In 3-2 Win Over SCSU

Lantana, Fla. – Senior Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) went 4-for-4 with an RBI and the Eagles pitching staff struck out seven  as the Post University baseball team extended its winning streak to seven games in a 3-2 win over in-state rival Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon.

After the Owls scored a run in the top of the second, the Eagles immediately answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single from sophomore Jared Zima (Berlin, Conn.) that scored senior Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.). Wright reached base with a one out single.

Post (7-3) tacked on another run on the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Walsh that scored freshman Connor Kolich (Mahwah, N.J.) who singled to lead off the inning to make it a 2-1 game.

The Eagles tacked on an important insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Wright that scored sophomore Kwan Jones (Easthampton, N.J.) to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead. Jones pinch ran for Walsh who singled with one out.

After the second inning, the Eagles pitching staff was able to shut down the Owls until the ninth when Nolan Cloutier drove in a run to make it a 3-2 game. But with runners on first and second with one out, junior reliever Mike Munson (Plainville, Conn.) shut the door on any comeback, striking out the final two batters. Mixed in with the run, Munson struck out three in his inning of relief and earned the save.

Starting senior Nick Arnold (West Islip, N.Y.) got the win pitching 5.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks while striking out three. Junior Brett Pisaneschi (Quogue, N.Y.) pitched 2.2 innings of perfect relief and struck out one.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
