Post Softball Swept in CACC Doubleheader by Georgian Court

Selimovski hits second homer of the season

LAKEWOOD, N.J.  – The Post University softball team was swept by Georgian Court in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Saturday. The losses were the Eagles' first in conference play this season as they fall to 6-12 overall and 4-2 in CACC play.

Game One – Georgian Court 8, Post 0, F/6
A seven-run first inning by the Lions put the game out of reach for Post. Freshman Brittany Giordano (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) tried to spark a two-out rally in the second with a base hit to left field. Junior Kailyn Biello (Watertown, Conn.) was hit by a pitch next to put two on, but both were stranded after a lineout.

The Eagles would get one more batter to second base in game one as senior Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) singled in the sixth and advanced on a groundout. Georgian Court doubled and singled to start the bottom of the inning to score the winning run.

Game Two – Georgian Court 7, Post 5
Another seven-run inning doomed Post in game two as Georgian Court jumped in front 7-0 in the second.

The Eagles would not go quietly this time as they answered with a five-run fourth. Schaffer doubled to left to begin the frame and freshman Demi Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) followed with a single to put runners at the corners.

Senior Sara Selimovski (Watertown, Conn.) crushed a three-run homer to right center to close the gap to 7-3. Sophomores Skylar Devorin (Millville, Del.) and Brianna Koref (Springfield, N.J.) each had RBI singles in the inning to trim the Lions' lead to 7-5.

Singles by freshmen Avery Kelly (New Milford, Conn.) and Megan McCormack (Franklin Square, N.Y.) out two on with two outs in the fifth, but the Eagles couldn't push another run across the plate.

Post returns home on Tuesday against Dominican. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m.
