Eagles Smack Four Homers in Sweep of Holy Family

Schaffer hits two HRs, drives in seven runs

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.  – The Post University softball team combined for 30 hits and 23 runs as it swept Holy Family in its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road doubleheader of the season on Tuesday. The Eagles have won three straight and are 4-0 to start conference play for the first time since 2014.

Game One – Post 16, Holy Family 7
The Eagles hit two grand slams and had a season-high 17 hits as they rolled to a 16-7 victory in game one. Freshman Brittany Giordano (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) put Post in front 5-0 in the first with a grand slam, her first-career home run. Holy Family got a run back in the bottom of the inning and scored twice in the third to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Singles by freshmen Cassidy Petrie (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Demi Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) and walk by sophomore Brianna Koref (Springfield, N.J.) loaded the bases with one out in the fourth. Reigning CACC Player of the Week senior Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) continued to swing a hot bat as she launched a grand slam to extend the Eagles lead. Petrie would get another at-bat in the inning and drive home two on a single to make the score 11-3.

Post scored a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by senior Sara Selimovski (Watertown, Conn.) and another in sixth as Leyri Rivera doubled home sophomore Skylar Devorin (Millville, Del.) who led the inning off with a base hit. Devorin and Petrie each drove in run in the seventh.

Demi Rivera began the game and struck out four over the first three innings. Freshman Leigha Goldsack (Rutherford, N.J.) earned the win as she allowed just one earned run and struck out eight over the final four innings.

Game Two – Post 7, Holy Family 5
The Post bats picked up right where they left off in game two as Leyri River singled to begin the game. Koref followed with a double to put the Eagles ahead 1-0.

In the third inning, Koref hit her second double and Demi Riva drew a walk with two outs. Schaffer crushed her second homer of the day, a three-run shot, to extend the Post lead to 4-0. Holy Family trimmed the deficit to 4-3 with three runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning.

A three-run homer by freshman Megan McCormack (Franklin Square, N.Y.) brought home Demi Rivera and Schaffer in the fifth to make the score 7-3. Holy Family added a run in the fifth and seventh innings.

Junior Leslie Denis (Swansea, Mass.) threw 6.1 innings and struck out three to improve to 3-3 on the year.

Post is back in action at LaMoy Field tomorrow afternoon against #21 Southern New Hampshire. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
