WATERBURY, Conn.  – The Post University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Bridgeport on Monday afternoon at LaMoy Field. The Eagles fell 16-6 in the opener but won 14-5 in five innings in game two.

Game One – Bridgeport 16, Post 6
After falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Eagles tied the game in the bottom as freshman Geanna Serechia (Hammonton, N.J.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home the tying run. Bridgeport added runs in the second and third to pull back in front 3-1.

Senior Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) singled to start the third and advanced into scoring position on wild pitch. Senior Sara Selimovski (Watertown, Conn.) brought her home on a line drive to left field to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The Purple Knights put the game out of reach with five runs on three hits and three walks in the fourth inning, pulling ahead 8-2. Freshman Demi Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) grabbed two runs back in the bottom as she launched a home run to left. Bridgeport earned both runs back in the fifth to lead 10-4. Schaffer smacked a two-run shot in the sixth for the Eagles' final runs. The Purple Knights added six more in the seventh.

Freshman Leyri Rivera (Dover, N.J.) doubled to left field to open the bottom for the first. After a groundout advanced her to third, Schaffer drew a walk to put runners at the corners. Selimovski reached on a dropped fly ball in left field and two runs came home as the Eagles led 2-0 through one. Sophomore Brianna Koref (Springfield, N.J.) hit a two-run double to extend the lead to 4-0 in the second.

Bridgeport doubled home two runs and scored on a runner caught stealing to trim the deficit to 4-3 in the third.

The first three Eagles reach based in the bottom of the fourth. Demi Rivera singled up the middle and Selimovski followed with a base hit. Freshman Megan McCormack (Franklin Square, N.Y.) drove both in on a double off the centerfield wall. Following a double by sophomore Skylar Devorin (Millville, Del.), freshman Cassidy Petrie (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled to right as another run came home.
