WATERBURY, Conn. – Behind a season-high five goals from freshman
Sydney Hogan (Northford, Conn.) the Post University women's lacrosse team defeated Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Felician 16-6 on Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field for its first win of the season.
The game was close early on as Felician struck first with a goal just 39 seconds into the game. Junior
Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.), sophomore
Jaylene Souto (Middletown, R.I.), and junior
Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) answered back to put Post ahead 3-1. Felician pulled within one, but the Eagles continued to pile on the goals as they lead 8-3 at halftime.
Felician scored twice to start the second half, closing the deficit to 8-5, but Post would not let this one get away. Hogan put the Eagles on the board for the first time in the second half with 11:45 to go and added four more in the half. Freshman
Julia Thomas (Wading River, N.Y.), Souto, and junior
Alana Lopez (Wolcott, Conn.) each scored as the Eagles rolled to victory.
Post held a 42-19 advantage in shots and 31-16 on goal, both season-highs. Junior
Lauren Chambers (Lebanon, Pa.) led the way with five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Middleton and Deren each grabbed four ground balls.
Middleton scored three goals and added two assists. Souto also added three goals, while Lopez scored twice.
Freshman goaltender
Noreen Donnelly (Staten Island, N.Y.) made 10 saves to earn her first-career victory in goal.
Post continues conference play on Saturday at Wilmington. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
