Eagles Swept on Final Day in Florida

Selimovski hits first-career home run

CLERMONT, Fla.  – The Post University softball team lost both of its games on the final day of its spring break trip to Florida. The Eagles fell to Bloomsburg 6-1 to open the day and were defeated by California (Pa.) 13-1 in game two.

Bloomsburg 6, Post 1
Post looked to get things started as sophomore Leyri Rivera (Dover, N.J.) drew a walk to open the third inning. After two outs she stole second and advanced to third on an error by the Bloomsburg catcher, but was stranded there as a ground out ended the inning.

Erin Smith tripled to being the bottom of the third and came home on a sacrifice fly for the first run of the game.

Senior Sara Selimovski (Watertown, Conn.) tied the game up in the fourth as she crushed the first pitch she saw over the right field wall for her first-career home run. Post threatened to add more as junior Kailyn Biello (Watertown, Conn.) and freshman Avery Kelly (New Milford, Conn.) singled with two outs, but were unable to push across the go-ahead run.

The Huskies hit three singles with one out in the bottom of the fifth to load the bases. Two errors by the Eagles turned into four runs as Post fell behind 5-1. Bloomsburg added one more run in the sixth.

California (Pa.) 13, Post 1, F/5
A double followed by a two-run homer put California in front 4-0 in the first inning. Senior Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) doubled and advanced to third in the second, but was unable to come home.

The Vulcans added three more in the third inning and hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth as they pulled in front 9-0.

Freshman Cassidy Petrie (Staten Island, N.Y.) doubled to start the bottom of the fourth and came home for the Eagles' only run on a wild pitch. Post would strand two runners in scoring position in the inning.

California added to its lead with a double and home run in the fifth. Post went down in order in the bottom.

The Eagles return north on Monday as they visit Southern Connecticut for a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
