Lantana, Fla. – The Eagles were solid on the hill, but the Post University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to No. 14 University of New Haven on Wednesday afternoon, 1-0 and 5-0 in a non-conference tilt.
In a tightly contested game one, junior Tyler Kovalewich (Colonia, N.J.) pitched a complete game, giving up just one run on three hits, while walking six and striking out four. The lone run he gave up was in the bottom of the fourth on a passed ball.
The Eagles had two hits in the game, one by freshman Jose Vasquez (New York, N.Y.) and the other by junior John Russo (Bronx, N.Y.).
Izaiya Mestre got the win for the Chargers in five innings of. Brandon LaManna earned the two inning save.
In game two, the Eagles (8-6) pitching staff combined to strike out nine batters in a 5-0 loss.
Starting senior Enzo Esposito (Hamilton, N.J.), freshman Mike Lisinicchia (Stamford, Conn.) and classmate Noah Meeks (Danbury, Conn.) each struck out three and walked two.
After scoring a run in the top of the third, the Chargers (12-0) broke the game open in the fifth with four runs, as Andrew Garcia, George Pappas and James Myers each had RBI singles in the inning.
Juniors Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) and Tyler Pavone (River Vale, N.J.) had the two hits for the Eagles.
Up next for the Eagles is a non-conference doubleheader against American International College in Miami Shores, Fla.
