Miami Shores, Fla. – On Thursday, the Post University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to American International College, 2-1 and 5-2.
In game one, the Eagles took an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly from senior Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) that scored freshman Jose Vasquez (New York, N.Y.).
The Yellow Jackets, however plated two runs in the bottom of the second. The first came on a passed ball that scored Andrew Ciacc. Brendan Cart then followed with an RBI single to give AIC the lead for good.
Junior Tyler Pavone (River Vale, N.J.) finished the game 2-for-3. Vasquez got the lone extra base hit for the Eagles with a double.
In game two, junior John Cartagena Jr. (Danbury, Conn.), provided the offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBI in the 5-2 loss.
Down 2-0 in the top of the third, Cartagena singled to drive in freshman Connor Kolich (Mahwah, N.J.) to put the Eagles on the board and make it a 2-1 game.
The Yellow Jackets tacked on two more runs – one in the third and the forth – before Cartagena hit another RBI single to drive in Walsh in the top of the fifth to cut the Eagles deficit to 4-2. The Yellow Jackets added one more run in the bottom of the inning.
The Eagles will open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Saturday as they take on Wilmington on the road in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
