CLERMONT, Fla. – The Post University softball team opened its season on Sunday night with two game in Clermont, Fla. The Eagles fell to Minnesota-Crookston 5-2 to begin the day and Bemidji St. 8-2 in the nightcap.
Minnesota-Crookston 5, Post 2
Minnesota-Crookston got on the board early with two runs in the top of the first inning. Senior
Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) led off the bottom of the inning with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman
Demi Rivera (Hazlet, N.J.) to make the score 2-1.
Rivera drove home Schaffer once again in the bottom of the third on a single to left field to tie the game 2-2. A two-run double by the Golden Eagles made the score 4-2 in the top half of the fourth. Minnesota Crookston added another run in the seventh off a homer by Gabriel Antolak.
Sophomore
Skylar Devorin (Millville, Del.) doubled to left field to begin the bottom of the seventh and moved to third on a groundout, but was stranded there as the Eagles fell 5-2.
Bemidji St. 8, Post 2
The first three Eagles reached base to being the nightcap. Schaffer drew a walk and sophomore
Leyri Rivera (Dover, N.J.) legged out an infield single. Freshman
Brittany Giordano (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) loaded the bases with a bunt single.
Demi Rivera grounded into a fielder's choice, but an error by the shortstop allowed two runs to come in as Post led 2-0 early. Three errors by the Eagles in bottom of the inning led to three runs by Bemidji St. The Beavers made the score 6-2 in the second on a three-run homer by Makayla Pagel.
Post put two runners on in the third and fourth innings but were unable to score. The Beavers added two more runs in the fourth. The Eagles threatened in the seventh as freshman
Avery Kelly (New Milford, Conn.) led the inning off with a walk.
Demi Rivera singled to center and both advanced on a groundout, but were stranded at second and third as the next two batter went down.
