WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's lacrosse team was defeated by American International 13-5 in its season opener at LaMoy Field on Wednesday. Senior
Kyle Hewlett (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored twice for the Eagles in the loss.
Post kept pace with the Yellow Jackets through the first quarter. After falling behind 1-0 out of the gate, Hewlett made the most of an AIC turnover and tied the game. The Yellow Jackets took the lead once again but junior
Sean Olsen (Old Bridge, N.J.) quickly answered back to make the score 2-2 with 6:34 to play in the first. Hewlett put the Eagles ahead 3-2 late in the first as they held the lead into the break.
American International grabbed a 4-3 advantage to start the second quarter. Hewlett found senior
Frank Nichols Jr. (Carlsbad, Calif.) for a goal at the 7:02 mark of the period to knot the score once again at 4-4. The Yellow Jackets took control from there as they built a 7-4 halftime lead.
Post remained within striking distance through three quarters as it trailed 8-5. Freshman
Mark Colella (Goshen, Conn.) tallied his first-career goal in the third. The Yellow Jackets put the game out of reach with five goals in the fourth.
Shots were 48-20 in favor of AIC, though the Eagles outshot the visitors 9-7 in the first quarter.

Paul Bossardet (Gaels Ferry, Conn.) and freshman
Giorgio D'Angelo (Highland, N.Y.) combined to make 19 saves. D'Angelo led the Eagles with 10 stops. Senior
Dominick Parente (Monroe Township, N.J.) and sophomore
Corey Auten (Stratford, Conn.) each grabbed four ground balls.
Post continues its five-game homestand to begin the season on Saturday against #18 Mercy. Face-off is set for 12 p.m.
