WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's lacrosse team fell to 0-2 on the young season with a 14-4 loss to #18 Mercy at LaMoy Field on Saturday afternoon. Senior
Dominick Parente (Monroe Township, N.J.) led the Eagles with two goals.
Mercy controlled the game early on as it built a 7-0 lead at the half. The Mavericks added another early in the third quarter before freshman
Mark Colella (Goshen, Conn.) put the Eagles on the board with 6:30 to go in the third. Each team scored another in the quarter as Parente tallied his first of the season late to make the score 9-2.
The Eagles put some pressure on the Mavericks in the fourth. After a Mercy turnover, junior
Stefan Ceconi (New Milford, Conn.) launched a long pass ahead to sophomore
Chris Stahl (Tabernacle, N.J.) who beat the keeper for his first-career goal to cut the deficit to 9-3. Parente made it a five-goal game with 12:21 to play with his second of the day.
The Mavericks would grab momentum back from there, scoring the final five goals of the game.
Ceconi led the Eagles with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore goalkeepers
Jake Bova (Trumbull, Conn.) and
Manuele D'Alessio (Mount Laurel, N.J.) each made seven saves.
