Colchester, Vt. - The Eagles traveled north to Vermont to square off against the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College. The Purple Knights are in the midst of a four game losing streak, including a loss last game to Dominican College (86-91). The Eagles came into the game with a 1-3 record in their last four games.
The first half was played tightly. Saint Michael's maintained a lead throughout but the Post would not let them get more than a couple possessions away. Tyshon Rogers led the way for the Eagles in the first half with 12 points. Rogers ended the game with 21 points (6-17 FG, 1-3 3PT, 8-10 FT), five rebounds, three assists and four steals in 31 minutes. The Waterbury native ranks first in the CACC in steals (34) and fourth in free throws per game (6).
The second half began with the Purple Knights leading the Eagles 40-36. Within five minutes of second half play, the Eagles rattled off an 11-4 run to take a three point lead.
Things went south for the Eagles after their early second half run. Saint Michael's answered with their own 19-0 run over a long eight minute stretch. This left the score at 63-47 in favor of the Purple Knights with seven minutes remaining in the game.
D.J. Frechette helped try to bring the Eagles back in the second half with ten points (4-7 FG, 1-3 3PT and 1-2 FT). Frechette ended the game with 13 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Abdul-Basit Ajia played big in the middle for the Eagles, racking up six blocked shots while adding four points, four rebounds and one assist.
Darryl Stewart scored in double figures for the seventh time this season and third consecutive game. Stewart tallied 11 points (4-7 FG, 1-3 3PT, 2-2 FT) while adding one rebound, one steal and one assist.
Next up for the Eagles will return home to take on Pace University (8-3, 4-2 NE10) for their third straight non-conference game on Sunday, Dec. 30 at 1:00 p.m.
