Waterbury, Conn. - The Eagles and Yellow Jackets played a back and forth game that saw 11 lead changes and ten different occasions with a tie score. Darryl Stewart dominated the first half, scoring 12 points on 4-5 shooting from the field. Stewart ended the game with 23 points, two rebounds and one steal. D.J. Jarrett made an immediate impact in his first game of the season, hitting two first half three point shots, including one with 50 seconds left the give post lead (39-37) going into half.
Jarrett took over for a stretch in the second half. With the Eagles down three, Jarrett connected on three pointer, blocked a layup attempt by AIC's Isaiah Salter, collected the rebound and immediately took the ball up court and drilled another long ball. This six point swing put the Eagles up three and in a great spot going down the stretch. Jarrett ended the game with 12 points.
The Eagles trailed by as many as eight points in the second half but took a one point when Stewart connected on a mid-range jumper with just over two minutes left.
The game would remain tied for a long stretch until the Yellow Jackets earned two free throws in the final two seconds of the game. Andrew Anderson of AIC stepped to the line and missed the first but converted on the second to put AIC up 71-70. Post called a timeout with 2.6 seconds remaining on the clock and set up a play for D.J. Jarrett to get a look at the basket. Marcus Johnson found Jarrett on a long inbounds pass but Jarrett was unable to hit a highly difficult 40-foot shot.
Marcus Johnson filled up the box score with five points, nine rebounds and four steals.
Tyshon Rogers ended the game with ten points on 5-16 shooting and four rebounds.
The Eagles will travel to Burlington, VT to take on Saint Michael's College on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 3:00 p.m.
