Tyshon Rogers (Waterbury, Conn.) scored 23 points and the Post University men's basketball team had a huge second half as it defeated New York Institute of Technology, 81-60 on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference road game.
The Eagles were down 38-37 at the half, but took their first lead in the second half at 43-41 after a jumper from junior
Marcus Johnson (Evanston, Ill.) at 15:48 and never looked back as it prompted a 40-19 run until the final buzzer.
Rogers scored 12 points in the half, and Johnson and freshman
D.J. Frechette (Nashua, N.H.) each hit a three-pointer to help fuel the run.
In the first half, the Eagles (2-5) fell behind 27-8 with 10:17 left before going on a 30-11 run to close the gap. Rogers had 11 points in the run, including a layup with four seconds remaining in the half.
Johnson finished with 15 points, the only other Eagle in double figures. The Eagles made the most of their opportunities at the free-throw line, going 22-for-32 as a team, including 7-for-11 from Rogers. Eleven different Eagles scored.
Senior
Tamas Okros (Bristol, England) had eight points and six rebounds and freshman
Jorge Torres (Springfield, Mass.) had eight points and eight boards off the bench.
Post outscored NYIT 13-12 in second chance points and 42-28 in the paint. The Eagles bench scored 30 points, led by Frechette.who had nine.
Zahir Porter led NYIT (0-6) in scoring with 16 points. Collins Onyeike had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
