Box Score Waterbury, Conn. - Senior Darryl Stewart (Atlanta, Ga.) scored 26 points, but the Post University men's basketball team lost its second straight overtime game, this time to Caldwell, 81-76 on Wednesday night in the Drubner Center.
The game went into overtime after junior Marcus Johnson (Evanston, Ill.) hit both free throws to tie the game at 72-72 with eight seconds left. Vaughn Covington of Caldwell missed a layup at the buzzer, forcing the extra session.
Stewart hit two free throws to open overtime, but the Cougars would finish on a 9-2 run with Stewart scoring the only field goal of the final five minutes.
It was a tightly contested matchup throughout as no team led in double digits, with the Eagles holding the biggest lead of the night at eight points twice in the first half. Caldwell cut the deficit to one at 38-37 with 3:13 remaining, but back-to-back three-pointers from juniors Raven Owen (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Savion Boissard (Walden, N.Y.) gave the Eagles a 44-37 Edge with 2:39 remaining. The Eagles took a 46-41 lead going into halftime after two free throws by junior Tyshon Rogers (Waterbury, Conn.) with one second on the clock.
The lead changed hands six times in the second half as Stewart kept the Eagles afloat with 13 points in the half, which was half of the team's total in the second frame.
Rogers finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Johnson just missed out on a triple-double scoring 11 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Felton had ten points.
Covington finished with a team high 22 points for Caldwell. Ned Ogoemesim had 21 points to go with eight boards.
