Eagles Lose Double OT Thriller To SNHU, 99-91

Orangeburg, N.Y. - Junior Tyshon Rogers (Waterbury, Conn.) hit two clutch buckets and scored 19 points, but the Post University men's basketball team dropped a tough 99-91 game in double overtime to Southern New Hampshire University in a non-conference match.

With the Eagles down 75-72 in regulation, Rogers hit a three-pointer with six seconds left to send the game to overtime as Ryogo Sumino missed a game-winning three for SNHU at the buzzer.

In the first OT, Rogers hit a layup with 34 seconds left to make it an 85-85 game as Sumino missed a second game winner to send the game to the second overtime.

However, the Eagles never led in the second OT as SNHU hit four free-throws to start the period and went 10-for-12 in the period to secure the win. Jorge Torers scored three of the six points in the period for the Eagles.

The game was tight throughout as the teams exchanged leads 22 times and was tied 15 times.

The Eagles used the deep ball in the first half hitting seven three-pointers. Freshman D.J. Frechette (Nashua, N.H.) and classmate Dwight Felton (Baltimore, Md.) hit three apiece as neither team held any lead bigger than three points in the first half. The Penmen took a 34-31 lead into halftime as the teams went scoreless the final 2:18.

The Penmen jumped out to a nine point lead at 42-33 to begin the second half before the Eagles went on a 28-14 run and took their largest lead of the game at 61-56 with eight minutes remaining in regulation. Senior Darryl Stewart (Atlanta, Ga.) hit three three-pointers during the run.

Southern New Hampshire would take the lead back at 68-66 with 2:51 left on a layup from Sumino and led the rest of the way until the layup from Rogers that sent the game into overtime.

Felton finished with 18 points and was 3-for-4 from three-point range. Frechette was 4-for-6 from deep, scored 14 points. The Eagles were 15-for-26 from three, a staggering 57.7 percent.

Led by Rogers, the Eagles bench outscored SNHU, 49-30.

Daquaise Andrews of SNHU led all scorers with 37 points and ten rebounds. He was 17-for-25 from the free throw line. Shawn Montague had ten points and ten rebounds.

Up next for the Eagles is their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener as they take on Caldwell at 7 p.m. on November 28 at the Drubner Center.
