Orangeburg, N.Y. - Freshman
D.J. Frechette (Nashua, N.H.) scored a team-high 15 points but the Post University men's basketball team dropped a 77-70 game to St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday evening.
With the loss, the Eagles are now 1-2 on the day.
The Eagles took a 34-33 lead into the half after a three from senior
Darryl Stewart (Atlanta, Ga.) gave the Eagles the lead with three seconds left in the half. It was the first lead the Eagles held in the game as STAC scored the first nine points.
Post was able to chip away to tie the game at 17 apiece after two free throws from junior
Tyshon Rogers (Waterbury, Conn.), but again STAC took a 26-18 lead at the 5:38 mark before the Eagles rattled off a 16-7 run, capped by Stewart's three-pointer.
Stewart finished the half with nine points. Rogers had seven.
In the second half, the two teams traded baskets for the first 2:06 of the half and were tied, 39-39 before STAC ran off a 15-4 run to take a 54-43 lead with 13:20 remaining. The Eagles cut the deficit to 69-66 with 2:54 left, but it would be the closest they would get the rest of the way.
Rogers finished with 13 points and ten rebounds. Stewart finished with 13 points.
Sekou Cisse of STAC led all players with 16 points.
Up next for the Eagles is a matchup against Mercy on Sunday on the campus of Dominican.
