Another Step Closer: Eagles Take Down Georgian Court, 3-1, Advance To CACC Finals

Lakewood, N.J. - Behind 24 kills from senior Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif), the Post University women's volleyball team advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title game after defeating host Georgian Court, 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles, seeded first in the North Division seek their first CACC tournament title since 2015, when they last reached the finals. They will take on Holy Family, the number one seed in the South Division on Sunday at Georgian Court for a noon start time. The Tigers took down Caldwell 3-0 earlier in the day.

In the first set, the Eagles fell behind 7-3 early on before rallying to tie the set at 8-8. After Georgian Court  - the second seed in the South - took a 15-12 lead, the Eagles rattled off eight straight points, which included two kills from junior Shannon Veale (Toms River, N.J.) and Hunziker to give the Eagles a 20-15 lead. The Lions answered with four straight points of their own before the Eagles scored five of the last six points to go up 1-0. Veale had five kills in the set. Hunziker had four.

The Eagles dropped a tight second set as the Lions went on a 6-0 run midway through to take an 11-7 lead and never trail again to tie the match, 1-1.

Post never trailed in the third set and used a 7-1 run midway through the set to take a 15-8 lead and effectively put the set away. Senior Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) had 13 of her 48 assists in the set.

In the fourth and final set, Hunziker had seven kills and the Eagles went on a 7-0 run after the teams were tied at 16 piece following a 5-0 run from Georgian Court.

Senior Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) finished with eight kills and freshman Rylie Arms (Gilbert, Ariz.) had six kills and three blocks.
