It was a battle of number one seeds in the CACC Championship game when Post University (#1 in the north) took on Holy Family (#1 in the south).
The Tigers had multiple 7+ point leads in the first set but the Eagles continued battling back to close the gap. Holy Family used a stretch of four points at the end of the first set to grab the first win.
The Eagles would take the second set due in part to scoring four straight points after going down 22-21. Shannon Veale came up with two important kills in the set-clinching final stretch.
Holy Family began the third set on an 8-2 run and would eventually take the set 25-14.
The fourth and final set was dominated by Holy Family with a 25-8 win. For Holy Family, this completed a season that saw them go 18-1 in CACC play and 29-5 overall.
While the Eagles did not win, they did all they could to put themselves in a position to capture a CACC title and possible NCAA tournament berth. They played difficult games throughout the CACC tournament and continued to impress with their clutch play.
Madison Hunziker came up big for the Eagles, as she so often does, collecting 17 kills and two aces in her final game in purple and orange.
Brianna Root capped off one of best volleyball careers in the history of Post University with 34 assists and six digs to go along with one kill and an ace.
Senior Sarah Seger complied 17 digs and four kills in the championship match.
The senior class, including Root, Hunziker, Seger and Nakajai Mills will go down as a special group that will leave a lasting impact on Mike Brienza's program.
