Post University came out of the gates hot in 2018 by dropping a 103 spot on in-state opponent Southern Connecticut State University.
The Eagles found success in two important aspects of the game; points in the paint and scoring from the guard position. Post enjoyed a 50-36 advantage inside the paint and got 48 points from the combination of Tyshon Rogers and Darryl Stewart.
The Eagles were looking at a 13 point deficit less than four minutes into the game but were able to regain the lead after the ten minute mark (30-29). Eight different players scored in the first half including Rogers (18) and Stewart (10).
Coming out of half the game was tied at 53 and the Eagles pounced on their opportunity to take control. Efficiency was key for Kuntz's squad in the second half. The Eagles shot an impressive 59% from the field, 60% from 3PT and 75% from the line.
The star of the game was Waterbury native Tyshon Rogers. Rogers went off for 27 points on 9-13 shooting from field (2-4 from 3PT) and 7-8 from the line. He added five assists and four steals on the defensive end. Rogers made an immediate impact on the game by scoring Post's first nine points, preventing the early deficit from growing larger.
D.J. Frechette contributed eight points, going 2-2 from the field in the second half, while knocking down important free throws down the stretch.
Jorge Torres went for 12 points on 4-5 shooting with five boards in 24 minutes. Marcus Johnson was equally as efficient, scoring eight points on 4-5 shooting, adding three boards and a steal.
Darryl Stewart delivered an important performance in the win with 21 points on 7-9 shooting with four rebounds and three steals.
Raven Owen provided the Eagles with outside scoring, going 3-6 from deep in his 11 point effort.
